The Fourth of July

IMG_0512.jpg
Family favorite: sparklers.

On the fourth of July…our family generally goes to a party for our church held at a friend’s house.

I  don’t know about you…but for me the 4th isn’t the 4th. WHATT?? 😆

UNLESS…you have fireworks, that is 😀 .

IMG_0468.jpg
Taking selfies on the phone and then taking a picture of the selfie on my camera. 😀               Right-me Left– E.B

I have a lot of memories from previous 4th of July’s. One (not-so-great) memory that concerns the gal in the selfie with me…is also concerning fireworks. You see, we used to be allowed to bring fireworks to the party and shoot them off during. But people were being irresponsible and unsafe and my friend was at the bad receiving end. She got hit in the face with some of the flying debris of a rocket firework. 😯  Don’t worry though…she was okay after a while.

Moral? Stay safe y’all. Always act responsibly. Your carelessness could hurt someone else.

That said I  ❤ LOVE ❤ fireworks! Loud noises don’t bother me and I love taking pictures. This is the 1st 4th of July that I’ve had a dslr to mess with.

IMG_0508.jpg

IMG_0502.jpg

So where do I watch fireworks if I don’t do it at the party? At home. Everyone else goes to a fireworks show. But that’s not something my family has ever done. Don’t know why. This year my sis wasn’t with us so we went back and did our own fireworks.

IMG_0511.jpg

IMG_0440.jpg
A friend let me borrow a wide angle lens during the party. It gave neat perspectives.

For me the 4th of July is a time where I photography anything in my path (isn’t that everyday, Emma? Uh…yeah. I guess it is. ). Nature, fireworks, food, people, etc.

IMG_0429.jpg
Wide angle lenses ensure sharp focus generally. You will be able to see more in focus vs. less. In this picture I was trying to see if I could get any bokeh out of the lens. Turns out you can. A little bit.

I did notice that you can get much closer up with a wide angle lens. Just in case you were wondering…I DO know that wide angle lenses are mostly used in landscapes. But there weren’t many landscapes to talk of at the party so…yep.

IMG_0418.jpg

IMG_0377.jpg
Okay, so I took ONE landscape with the wide angle. Just one. 😀
IMG_0484.jpg
OH, wait. Come to think of it—I took a sunset picture with the wide angle.  🙄

IMG_0529.jpg

IMG_0605.jpg

Oh, and I made a fireworks GIF from one firework.

IMG_0614.jpg

IMG_0631.jpg

Anyways I had a good 4th of July. I hope you did, too. I do think I haven’t gotten the hang of fireworks pictures. My ISO was too high for my taste and my shutter speed was too low. 😥

How was your fourth?

Did anyone say ‘may the 4th be with you’, to you? (I think it’s annoying!)

Did you take fireworks pictures?

Vacation Photography, Part 4. {Finale!}

Here we are!

For the final post in this short series. This might end up being the longest…but I don’t know for sure. We were visiting some friends…this post has water, miniature ponies, azaleas, and swinging. Plus some more randomness.

IMG_7991.jpg

IMG_8003.jpg
At this moment I am digging texture photos…remember the brick? 😀

IMG_8029.jpg

IMG_8074
My bother got all wet in the creek and then wanted a photo with this miniature horse. My brother isn’t very tall, btw. 😀
IMG_8075.jpg
Aren’t they cute?
IMG_8085.jpg
I love this vertical shot!
IMG_8100.jpg
This cracks me up! A nice size comparison. 😉
IMG_8107.jpg
Oh, and I forgot to mention the ducks!
IMG_8114.jpg
And they were all happy…until my brother chased them. 😉 😀
IMG_8122.jpg
Bro and sis on the swing. BTW, they aren’t concerned. They were laughing right after this shot was taken.

IMG_8206.jpg

IMG_8212.jpg

IMG_8215.JPG
I got mom to pose for a picture. Happy Mother’s Day, btw. My only regret is the cup she’s holding. I was so eager, I overlooked it 😉 . I do like the diverse background though.

Going home I shot pictures from the windows.

IMG_8296.jpg

That’s a wrap, folks.

I hope you enjoyed this little four-part series. I could have added tons more than I did…but my memory is really getting small now.

Vacation Photography, Part 1.

Hello, friends!

First off, I have not permanently vanished. I am still alive and kicking/breathing. But I have a mountain of vacation photos to share. Today is part one of the vacation pictures. All of this is photography stuff…lifestyle is always on the Misty Mountain (except for right now as I’m on break there due to time 🙂 ).

First off this photo that I took of a sweet young lady holding a rose. I used the gold side of my new reflector (I got it!!!!)…and after fixing the white balance in Photo Director…it made it look rose gold. I love the lighting look honestly. 🙂

IMG_7573-1.jpg
She looks like Belle (or beauty!).

The first thing I photographed on vacation was this soft orangish blue sunset. I have been waiting to photograph a sunset like this.

IMG_7589.jpg

Oh, and here is the ‘after sunset’ photo for comparison. So much grain…but that’s okay. 😀

IMG_7626.jpg

And then I went to the peony flowers (one of my favorite flowers.)…and took photos of them. I had to up the light just a pinch because it was somewhat dark. 😀

IMG_7598.jpg
Thankfully, brightening a picture can be done easily in post processing.
IMG_7605.jpg
And some cure little peony buds!

Then to the rose bushes!

IMG_7615.jpg

IMG_7620.jpg

And the day ended with a shot of the moon.

IMG_7649.jpg
Not overly impressive…but this is how it looked.

p.s Don’t forget to tune in to Part 2!

Day, Twilight, Golden Hour, Sunset, & Night~

Today I am sharing some of my recentest photography from five stages of a day.

Day, Golden Hour (2nd), Twilight, Sunset, and Night.

I am excited to be finally doing a ‘stages of the day’ post. So here we go.

p.s. This isn’t the kind of post I can keep to my ‘just 5 pictures’ rule. 😀

Day~

FREELENSING!!!!

IMG_7046.JPG
Freelensing is nice because I don’t have either a close-up or a macro lens (next lens, anybody?).
IMG_7044
Freelensing, too!

Back to the normal digital photos!

Golden Hour~

Just a few quick golden hour photos with my sis Ellie 🙂 .

Twilight~

So twilight sort of gives you a blueish lighting. It’s between golden hour and sunset. You’d be surprised at how fast it comes after golden hour and then how fast sunset runs on the heels of twilight!

IMG_6861.JPG

IMG_6863.JPG

This is legit guys, not a white balance problem.

Sunset~

I have sunsets from two days. They are extremely different from one another. The first is fiery and cloudy (right after a tornado warning came for our area!), and the second is what I call “rainbow lighting”.

These last two were the ‘rainbow lighting’ ones.

Night~

And that is a wrap!

But wait…

Don’t go yet…

I have a surprise for you…

….

Haha! Gotcha’. 😀

That cute, furry little (gulp) guy was found in one of the bedrooms. He was so HUGE. And scary. And hairy…ew. 😛

5 Springy Things

…Hello!

I am enjoying Spring, although I was disappointed at the lack of snow to practice portraits in last year. But here we are. A brand new year. Easier to mange golden hours, and soft spring lighting.

(*So. You may be wondering why I haven’t posted any of the newborn pictures yet. The answer is…the shoot has been rescheduled for sometime THIS week.)

And so today is a springy post.

1. Floral Dresses~

IMG_5453.JPG
Especially this one that looks like a dress from the 1960’s. Vintage ❤ .

2. Flowers~

IMG_6039.JPG
These adorable little grape hyacinths are all over our grass!
IMG_6054
And there are little violets everywhere.

3. Red buds ~

Those lovely tress with pink flowers on them…

4. Dead winter leaves go away~

Photo taken at twilight on a recent night.

5. More predictable golden hours~

What are y’all looking forward to this spring?

What is one photo on your bucket list for this spring? (a newborn session is on mine 😛 😉 ❤ )

Do you like to swim? (Random, I know. But my family just got a YMCA membership and I’ve                                         gone swimming twice!)

All the Stars

“Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground.”

~Theodore Roosevelt

Finally *triumphant drumroll*…I actually managed to get okay star photos.

Just click on the individual images to see their fuller versions! The very last photo was taken at a random place a few months ago for y’alls comparison. I feel like I am starting to figure out the manual focus as it relates to stars. The bothersome thing is that you can only see a teensy little bit when it’s dark. 🙂 😉 😦

cropped-logomakr_5mgrre.png

“It’s just another night
And I’m staring at the moon
I saw a shooting star
And thought of you
I sang a lullaby
By the waterside and knew
If you were here,
I’d sing to you
You’re on the other side
As the skyline splits in two
I’m miles away from seeing you
I can see the stars
From America
I wonder, do you see them, too?”

~Ed Sheeran, All the Stars

30DPC| Day 12| Tree

Day twelve- Tree

img_2637
It was dark and rainy. So I used flash…and I ended up with a ghost tree 🙂 . Forever wishing I’d taken the photo when it was light outside. Oh well.

Purple Evening Lighting

At around four PM today we has some really weird lighting outdoors. It was almost a pinkish gray color.

IMG_0964_edited.jpg
I thought it would be a fun thing to frame the trees in the windmill.
IMG_0952_edited.jpg
This is the windmill (or the guillotine if you’re a regular on the Misty Mountain) and it was obviously already dark in this photo 🙂 .
IMG_0949_edited.jpg
This picture just shows the pinkish (is it actually purpleish?) lighting a little more.
IMG_0932_edited.jpg
I am not in love with this photo or anything but it does show the lighting pretty well.

And because this is a short and boring post…I will just add in some recent photos I took at around 10:00 PM a few nights ago of the Christmas tree light reflections.

What are y’all’s plans for this Christmas?

Moon Photography

I have today a somewhat dramatic ‘before’ ‘after’ thing for y’all to see. I went out tonight and took some photos of the moon. First, I tried using my own (faint) knowledge of manual mode, and this is what came out:

IMG_0853.jpg
And this photo looked a LOT worse before I edited it…and it’s still overexposed!

Then I decided it was too much for me to attempt what I had no clue about. So…I did some research and found this handy little canon discussion form on moon photography.

http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/EOS-Rebel/How-do-you-take-a-picture-of-the-moon-using-Canon-EOS-Rebel-T5/td-p/135436

And after applying what I read…

IMG_0873.Jpeg.jpg
…this is the result!

I was SO pleased with this photo. I couldn’t believe with just a little tweaking of the settings I had such a different result. And the best part? I was able to use ISO 100! Yay!

What do you think of all this?
